On my trip to Austin, without my children, in 2019, I visited the Cathedral of Junk which is an incredible collection of “junk” created by Vince Hannemann. He started it in 1989, in his 20s, and has continued adding to it, creating more rooms and spaces since. He also had to dismantle part due to Austin’s planning laws and city engineers have tried to find weak points in the structure but in fact found it to be safe and structurally sound. It was an amazing place to explore, coming across different rooms and areas, stairs up to a higher level, a slide, seating and even a secret passage through the fence to a viewpoint. Well worth a visit if you are in the area and a wonderful photo opportunity!
